Aquatic plant requirements?

Can I have a cryptocoryne beckettii without substrate and CO2? I have some anubias and microsorum which should be fine, but I got this cryptocoryne and planted it straight in gravel. I'd rather not use any fertilizer because it's not so good for the fish. Will it make it?
